This weekend we pay tribute to those that have gone before us. A newer country music performer has a song with the lyric “to the one’s that didn’t make it back home”. That lyric strikes home deeply in our family. My father served in the Marines in the Pacific. He served in Iwo Jima and Nagasaki. He saw things he never talked about to the family. He made it home. Why? The “greatest generation”! What he did talk about is the guys from his St. Xavier high school year book that “went too soon”. As we would page through his senior year book in his autumn years of his life I would point to a picture and it seemed several on every page, “went too soon”. When someone says the men that died for us for our freedom, remember those men were eighteen, nineteen, twenty years old. “Too soon”. Take a moment this weekend to remember those that went before us. Many went “too soon”. Shawn Carroll ... See MoreSee Less

Happy 100th Birthday to a regular guy who treated everyone as though we were all equal. He never forgot his roots, his country ways or down to earth personality. If you didn’t know Mr. Durr personally you would have never known of his wealth. He had a wide range of knowledge and made you feel like you were just as important as him. He, through the Foundation, continues to help those in our community. We are grateful to celebrate his 100th birthday with our well wishes. We could go on about him but he would say that was enough said. Thanks R.C. for all of the good you continue to do! ... See MoreSee Less
